Here – the British illustrator, who recently came up with the short animation film "Onwards", compares two of his passions running and illustration and the similarities between them, you also get to see some amazing black and white drawings. The series, in three parts, focuses on Jarvis's personality, life, how they inspired his latest production.

Here's the trailer for Jonathan Blitstein's debut film about the trials and tribulations of a couple of generation why folks playing out their day to day lives and the aspirations, doubts and mistakes that cloud at times, color their actions, intentions and at times inertia. It's a satire of the movements and motivations of these NYC East Villagers all of whom are searching a sense of real happiness. You can't help but smile while watching a film where the tag line is "find your calling". That's the universal ideal for everyone, as blatantly obvious as it may seem at times.

I have been listening to a lot of house, disco, electro and techno lately, the umbrella term would be dance music. Why does music need labels attached? What constitutes good music is going to be different to everyone, dependent on the styles they identify with, relate to and dig. Here is a range of snippets of and links to tunes on repeat. If one person hears a track they had not heard before and enjoys it, then there is a purpose to letting people out there know about some cool tracks, mixes every so often.

Was listening to ATL ambient, garage, punk group Deer Hunter, fitted perfect while watching. A song of theirs came on Caroline Gates program on FBi 94.5FM.

Suffice to say, I'll be seeking out that new Microcastle album.

There is so much good music out there, borders on impossible to keep up.

That is just part of the reason why it has been so quiet here lately…

Here's the trailer for Charlie Kaufman's new film. You may have heard of Kaufman, he co-wrote a film called Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, back in 2004, of which I wasn't a fan. Having said that, I may go see this. The film's Australian release date is yet to be confirmed.

Scientists estimate that of 7,000 languages in the world, half will be gone by the end of this century. On average, one language disappears every two weeks. THE LINGUISTS follows David Harrison and Gregory Anderson, scientists racing to document languages on the verge of extinction. David and Greg's 'round-the-world journey takes them deep into the heart of the cultures, knowledge, and communities at stake. In Siberia, David and Greg seek to record the Chulym language, which hasn't been heard by outsiders for more than thirty years. The linguists encounter remnants of the racist Soviet regime that may have silenced Chulym for good. In India, tribal children attend boarding schools, where they learn Hindi and English, a trade, and the pointlessness of their native tongues. Similar boarding schools for tribal children existed in the US through most of the twentieth century. David and Greg travel to the children's villages, where economic unrest has stirred a violent Maoist insurgency. The linguists witness the fear and poverty that have driven youth from their native communities. In Bolivia, the Kallawaya language has survived for centuries with fewer than one hundred speakers. David and Greg trek high into the Andes to unlock its secret.

I'm not the biggest fan of Ricky Gervais's comedy, so we'll wait and see, when it's on at the cinema from December 26th.

Patti Smith: Dream of Life

A special screening of fashion photographer Steven Sebring (11 years in the making) documentary on the music and philosophy of rock music icon Patti Smith takes place at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image on Friday 10th October. Tickets are available from ACMI and Ticketmaster.

Although not a huge fan of Patti Smith myself, I am keen to see this upon general release, the trailer (embedded below) looks cool.

Not Quite Hollywood exclusive Sydney screening

In such politically correct times, a film about the history of Aussie exploitation films with plenty of gore, exploding zombies, car chases, scantily clad women and kung-fu interspread throughout is a welcome antidote to the cotton wool, offend no one culture which seems to have turned many ordinary larrikins of all races here into boring, drab, lifeless saps. Folks need to lighten up and realise that not everyone subscribes to their holier than thou, moral beliefs.

Anyway, the team at Popcorn Taxi are screening "Not Quite Hollywood" on the 13th August at Greater Union cinemas in Bondi Junction. If you're in Sydney, you should go and check it out (you'll need to buy tickets in advance though, cause Popcorn Taxi screenings often sell out in advance). It will be a cool night, both literally (if this weather keeps up) and metaphorically.

Heavy Metal in Baghdad

Heavy Metal in Baghdad is a look into the lives of Iraqi heavy metal band Acrassicauda (a feat in itself) and the trials and tribulations they face, from the time of the fall of Saddam Hussein in 2003 to the present day.

Sydneysiders can catch it when it screens at the Metro Theatre on the 20th June as part of the 55th Sydney Film Festival.

Reprise trailer

I was reluctant to post this. Why? Because it has already had 11,000+ views on You Tube. But then when you think about the entire planet's population 11,000 really is not all that many people. Besides, I would like to think that the trailer is going to inspire a bunch of readers who may not have heard of Norwegian director Joachim Trier's award winning film on "the passion of youth and the unpredictable perils of fate", to go and check it out when it's released in their part of the world.

Wow... Lucy Walker's new film on a bunch of blind Tibetan teenagers climbing the Lhakpa-Ri peak of Mount Everest, with mountain climber Erik Weihenmayer leading the expedition looks nothing short of epic.

Canadian Director Bruce McDonald's new film looks great.
Ellen Page was nominated at this years Oscars for best actress for her role and you can see why, definitely a name to watch. The Tracey Fragments is in US theatres May 9th.

Directed by Peter Segal. This film looks as hilarious as the great 1960's television series from which Segal's film has spawned. It's in Australian cinemas July 3rd. In the meantime, check out the film's official site.

Bella Trailer

Your typical cliched mushy Hollywood flick this is not. The first feature from Metanoia Films looks refreshing, original, cool, intelligent, complex and poignant. You can find out more about the film, production company, cast, crew and the awards it has picked up at Bella. It opens in Sydney at the Dendy Opera Quays cinema on February 21st.

Strange.... Very Strange

Anna Muylaert's 2002 comedy / drama Durval Discos (check the IMDB listing) is fairly kooky, to say the least. It does have some great Brazilian music from the '70's though and you'd assume it would when the film takes place in a record store in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Muylaert's film was screened on SBS yesterday afternoon.
