Straight Outta Belgium

I wanted to send a shout out to Alex Deforce. A while back he sent me an email about some very cool video interviews / pieces he's doing on a littany of icons / rising stars in street / youth culture. From upcoming Californian based Hip Hop / Experimental / Indie music producer Flying Lotus through to legendary art and anthropology photographer, documentarian, historian Martha Cooper. His site is On Point. Take a visit and give him a pound for the time and effort he's putting in to these interviews.

Six Twenty PM

The menacing sky opened and if you were near water as I was yesterday, the wind slicing through the waves made for some great photos. Unfortunately I didn't have my camera, so I'll have to make do with a Yahoo user submitted shot of the pitch black / grey intertwining clouds over Annandale, Sydney (shown above).

Photography segwey: If you are anywhere near a TV screen on Sunday evening make sure you check out the brilliant BBC series on the history of the artform, entitled Genius of Photography. Here's a brief summary of this week's episode which screens on ABC 2 at 8:30pm.

Behind the Lens

I figured after reading a great piece on the book over at the "Fat Lace" website on the essential "Born In The Bronx" book in which Joe Conzo's timeless photographs appear, that it would be fitting to post a link to the official site of the legendary South Bronx (NYC) born and raised Hip Hop / NYC street culture photographer / historian.

Under the weather

Would be here, if I weren't! Really dope to see a Sydney night dedicated to original breaks. Toast to it's success. Very fresh line up. Hopefully someone records some of these sets.

Relatively new night Hoops is also taking place for the second time as I write this. Expect a whole lot of Crunk, Baltimore, Baile Funk, Dancehall, Hip Hop & Hyphy. From all reports it is going off like the Biz! The line up reads as follows: DJ's Ninalavegas, Anna Lunoe and Bad Ezzy, plus Vivienne Kingswood vs. DJ Crane, Amillionaire, Rudy Jackson (Lordz of the Fly) with Banatronic & Hobosexual returning to the decks. Catcall shake n’ pop live with the HOOPS dancehall dancers will also be performing.

Some of you would have seen the following bits and pieces and some of you wouldn't.

Loose Ends:

Two part Neek The Exotic feature from one of Melbourne's biggest rap fiends ands realest scribes. Keep a look out for Robbie's interview with Ali-Ba-Ski (aka Lord Alibaski).

LA's DJ Mike B dropped a crazy DJ Sneak post a while back.

Sean D. did a mammoth Halloween post from the darkside that's well worth taking a look at.

New Jersey's DJ Nes recently posted a moving tribute to the late NJ graff legend "NaceOne" along with the link to a page dedicated to "NaceOne" on My Space with 100+ flicks of his work.

Every set I've heard recorded live from the Banana Split night at the LAX nightclub has been nothing short of incredible. This week's line-up is definitely one of the illest: Special guests Morse Code, Steve 1der, alongside residents Mike B, Steve Aoki, AM.
